Last weekend Dr. Moravec had his annual orthodontic networking meeting with 6 other orthodontists at Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Drs. Starr, Kent and Hamilton from North Carolina, Dr. Risinger from Connecticut, Dr. Petty for Illinois and Dr. Stoll from Colorado shared treatment and practice management ideas. They also managed to play a couple

rounds of golf.

Sunday Dr. Moravec rode in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Charity "Blood, Sweat and Tears" Bike Ride. He rode 100 miles, yes 100 miles, in a little over 5 hours. Congratulations to Dr. Moravec

Amanda Attends Invisalign Seminar

Amanda, one our great patient managers and treatment coordinators, attended a seminar last Friday in downtown Chicago. She networked with over 50 other treatment coordinators and listened to world renowned orthodontic practice consultant Rosemary Bray give tips on practice management and consumer service.

Dr. Moravec competes in Triathlon

After a couple years of not being able to compete in triathlons due to injuries Dr. Moravec returned to competetion this past Sunday. He finished third in his age group at the Schaumburg Splash, Pedal, Dash sprint triathlon. The distances were a 400 meter swim, 15 mile bike and 5k run. Dr. Moravec has now competed in triathlons in each of the last 4 decades.

Lingual (Behind The Teeth Braces)

Last week Dr. Moravec and Brenda traveled to Dr. Brent Bankhead's orthodontic office outside of St. Louis. Like Dr. Moravec, Dr. Bankhead is a leading SureSmile orthodontist. Dr. Bankhead also treats many patient with SureSmile QT, which are braces that go behind the teeth and are essentially invisible. Dr. Moravec and Brenda brought back a lot of great information and we will soon be providing SureSmile QT to our adult and older teenage patients.

Invisalign Without Impressions

Yesterday we had an office demonstration of the ITero 3-D scanner. Once we have the system operating and have been trained in the process our Invisalign patients will no longer need the hassles of impression. The ITero scanner provides a more accurate representation of the teeth than impressions and there is instant feedback. The 3-D data is transmitted to Invisalign immediately so aligners are made much faster. We look forward to having the Itero system soon. Dr. Moravec

Braces Off Today

Becka and Shauna join Our Team

We would like to welcome Becka and Shauna on to our staff. Becka and Shauna began training this week as Patient Managers. They both have a medical technology background

and during the next several months will master the skills necessary to aid Dr. Moravec and the rest of the team in patient care. We are excited about the new energy they'll bring to office.

Lost Retainers

We have many interesting stories from patients about how their retainers are lost and/or destroyed. A more interesting one occurred today. Martha was at a cookout and was eating dinner around a bonfire. She took out her retainers and placed them in a napkin (1st mistake). Her very young son then picked up the napkin containing the retainers and threw them in the bonfire. (2nd mistake)

Hygiene Contest Winner

Congratulations to Austin Stubner for winning our 1st Quarter "Support Oral Hygiene" wristband drawing. Austin is in full SureSmile braces right now and is looking forward to having them removed in the near future. Austin is pictured with his prize, A Nook Tablet, which he said he would use for school and reading. Dr. Moravec offers a hardy handshake of congratulations! Bull Ticket Winner

Congratulation to Mary for winning our "What Makes You Smile Contest." Mary is currently in treatment at our office. We also treated her sister Rebekah and brother Sam. Mary won four club level tickets to the Bulls/Wizards game last week. Unfortuantely, the Bulls suffered a rare defeat when J.C. Watson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the game. Congratulations Juliana

A great surprise for Juliana on Thursday! She was ready to get her braces and because of an opening in our schedule we were able to remove them right away. This was perfect for her -- she was going on a band trip to New York this weekend and just got a job. She said,"this a great week."

2012 Hygienist Orthodontic Summit

We held our 2nd Annual Dental Hygienist Orthodontic Summit on March 22nd at Bolingbrook Club Club. 122 area hygienist attended the dinner event. Invisalign, orthodontics/oral hygiene and orthognathic surgery were the topics discussed. Marcy Johnson and Kelly Dowling won the $250 Zappo's gift certificates, Sara Daniels won the iPad and Kim Kruchten won the weekend suite stay at the Trump Hotel in downtown Chicago. Invisalign Update

Last Friday Dr. Moravec attended a continuing education lecture on the latest in Invisalign treatment. Dr. Willy Dayan of Toronto emphasized how moving teeth with Invisalign requires a different analysis than moving teeth with braces and that an orthodontist is the only qualified professional to do it.

1000th SureSmile Patient

Congratulations to Marissa. Earlier this week she became our 1000th patient to complete orthodontic treatment with the SureSmile system using 3-D imaging and robotically bent wires. Marissa and her mom received some festive gifts to commemorate the event.

My Daughter's Birthday

I celebrated my daughter Eva's 10th birthday and St. Patrick's Day at the Bulls/76ers game. Even with Derrick Rose not in the lineup the Bulls won a hard fought game. Note in the background of the photo of Eva is basketball great and all-time NBA leader in point scored, Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Wisdom Teeth Removal - A New Way

The pain and swelling associated with the removal of wisdom teeth may be a thing of the past in the near future. A new technology combining precise 3-D imaging and microsurgery may allow surgeons to "zap" the developing wisdom tooth bud at early stage before the wisdom tooth fully develops and causes problems. This amblation procedure is non-invasive without cutting or sutures. Animal studies are being completed and human studies will soon follow. Dr. Moravec

At Moravec Orthodontics we strongly support good oral hygiene. However, this lady may be taking it a little too far. She was spotted by Kirt, our office IT expert, at Routes 59 and 126. We appreciate her effort, but we cannot support distracted driving. Don't ask where she spit out.

SureSmile Users Meeting

Dr. Moravec and Brenda, our office SureSmile coordinator, attended the SureSmile Users meeting in Dallas this Friday and Saturday. They attended lectures and panel discussions on the latest advances in 3-D treatment planning and networked with the 600 fellow attendees. The Friday evening awards ceremony had a sports theme with Dr. Moravec and Brenda adopting a Chicago Bulls theme. Our office received recogniton for our marketing efforts with SureSmile and for finishing over 900 patients with the SureSmile system.

SureSmile Users Meeting

Dr. Moravec and Brenda are going to the annual SureSmile Users meeting today. This year it is held in Dallas. Dr. Moravec is hosting round table discussions for orthodontists new to SureSmile. Brenda, who is on the staff advisory board of SureSmile, will be conducting panel discussions for other attending SureSmile staff

Brent gets his Braces

Brent had his braces placed yesterday and can't wait for his new smile. Brent's mom has been a dental hygienist with Drs. Muraglia and Peck for over 25 years. She and I worked together when I my Plainfield practice first opened when I rented space in their office.

Oral Surgery Presentation

Yesterday Drs James McGough and Hussien Ads presented a lunch time continuing education program to Dr. Moravec and his team. Drs McGough and Ads are oral surgeon partners practcing in Aurora.
They covered the diagnosis and treatment of impacted wisdom teeth and presented the latest techniques used in removing impacted wisdom teeth.

Best Smile in Washington DC

On his recent 8th grade trip to Washington, DC, not only did Bobby Muller learn about the US government and US history, but his mom said he was also voted to have the best smile in his group.

Bobby completed Invisalign Teen treatment about 6 months ago.

Bulls Game
